038: Tannhäuser’s Gate

As the name implies this set goes dark and mechanical. It’s split between two genres I have created as techno itself is woefully behind in splitting large and unwieldy sub-genres up into more discreet units that reflect the musical evolution. BounceTek I’ve mentioned before – it’s that delicious combination of Bouncy Techno, Tech House, and a progressive sound. There’s also a trance-based version of this combination that I have (at least temporarily) decided to call Transfixion. The set opens perhaps a little slower than I meant it to be, but it fits into the whole.

037: Chopped, Sliced, Blended, and Dirty

I went a bit weird with this one and mixed it up a great deal. Now that I’ve gotten back in the habit of weekly broadcasts I can start getting much more experimental.

I thought it would be fun to put a set together that’s 100% peak main stage; it also gave me the perfect opportunity to try a few new techniques I’ve been experimenting with. I’m very pleased with the outcome.

One more trap episode – I just couldn’t help myself. I tried to put more emotional depth into this one and I think I succeeded; it was certainly much more draining to mix. I like how it sounds and how it flows.

034: It’s a…TRAP

A few days ago I was asked to provide a trap playlist at a party and in the process of doing so realized I had quite a bit of it. I never really put it on a podcast because half the fun is watching the audience, but at the same time some of the newer stuff is really, really good. As it turns out I’m pretty good at it and got really energetic and into it. There will probably be more bass music in the future.

033: Beatbot Bounce

Website: http://mattadair.net

Beatbot Bounce is primarily composed of a techno genre I call bouncetek – harder than any form of tech or progressive house, too melodically complex and layered for deep techno, too house-like for bouncy techno. It’s a sound that’s always been around in a small amount but lately has gotten much more common. Certainly enough to fill a new sub-genre bucket in my opinion. I’ve been thinking about doing a series of blog posts on genres of electronic music, if you’re interested then keep an eye on the top link above.

Freeform 013: AutoRomanticism

We’re almost current! In a few days I’ll post the latest Voyager and new sets will then be day and date. This was the Valentine’s day party; the theme was “treat yourself.” (Note: the Freeform count jumped a bit – I’ve located a treasure trove of recordings from the past few years and I plan to merge them into the post time line.)

032: Magnetic Declination

A bit of peace this week; atmospheric breaks to soothe after a fairly hectic month for almost everyone I know. There was a weird broadcast issue that somehow didn’t show up on the local recording and I spent a few extra days trying to see if I could get the archive fixed before posting.
